Continuing Education

Our Commitment to Quality:

Part of our purpose is focused on improving the standards of education and the quality of Thai yoga therapy practice. Connected with that drive is the strong encouragement from us to be always levelling-up your knowledge and skills. We do however, recognize that by having taken training with Navina, you’re already standing out in the crowd – so the continuing education is not a requirement but a strong encouragement.

We’ll spell out the details of your options for continuing education below, but one thing to note first that’s important: once you’re certified with us, that certification does not expire.

With that said, our Continuing Education system is designed to be accessible to certified practitioners regardless of geographical location, financial constraints and/or time limitations. Should you choose to engage in our continuing education process once certified, the benefit is that you get a free listing on our “Active Practitioners” page, which acts as a global directory for clients who are hooked on the way we do things. The Continuing Education system requests that you:

• complete a minimum of 21 Core Continuing Education Units (cCEUs) within your cycle, or
• complete 41 Peripheral Continuing Education Units (pCEUs) within your cycle.

Please expand the sections below to get more detail on our continuing education process:

Continuing Education Cycle

The certification cycle is a duration of 36 months. Your renewal date is the 1st day of the month following the 36-month period from your date of certification. For example, if your certification date is August 5th (or on any date in August), 2018 your cycle end-date is September 1st, 2021.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

Continuing education is designed to enhance competency, knowledge, skill and your overall ability to take the best care of your clients. An activity can only be included within your CEU reporting that contributes to one or all of the above. The topics included within the Continuing Education umbrella must be in some way related to your Navina® Thai Yoga Therapy practice. We have created a list below to assist you when making your selections for Continuing Education. CEUs are calculated at 1 CEU per 1 hour of education and training that satisfies the above requirements.

Submission Process

If you complete one Enhanced Module during this time, your cycle renewal is automatic. If instead you are unable to, or do not participate in a Navina® Enhanced Module, you must submit your cycle application.

Below you’ll find an approved modality list, where any educational offerings that fall under one or more of the modalities listed is considered an approved activity. Please also see the list of modalities that are denied for credits. For any educational offerings that are not listed under any of the modalities below, please see the Modality Tool, where you may submit your Continuing Education for approval. When you participate in education that does fall under one of the listed approved modalities, you are to use the self-reporting tool for your CEU submission.

When using the Modality Tool, please include as much detail and information as possible to assist us in assessing whether a particular modality is fit to be approved or not.

List of cCEU Activities:

Remember, if you participate in one Navina® Enhanced Module per cycle, you do not need to check this list. This is only for use if you are unable to or do not intend on participating in an Enhanced Module. In that instance any workshop, course, training, seminar or similar education opportunity taken in-person, that falls within one of the following modalities or areas of study AND satisfies the minimum of one Competency Category (listed below), is classified as a “core” Continuing Education activity and is guaranteed CEU approval.

Thai Massage Reflexology Occupational Therapy
Swedish Massage Structural Integration PNF
Tuina Rolfing Aromatherapy

Acupuncture Active Release Infant Massage
Cupping Manual Lymph Drainage Acupressure

Reiki Chiropractic

Visceral Manipulation
Competency Categories

Any study completed in one or more of the approved modalities must also provide training and education in one or more of the following competency categories/topics of study.

Anatomy Application of Manual Technique
Business Acumen Movement Assessment
Injury Assessment Client Relations

Clinical Practice Documentation & Record-Keeping

pCEU Activities

“Peripheral” Continuing Education Units include any educational opportunities that satisfy the same criteria as cCEUs, except that they take place out of a classroom in a format other-than in-person training. These forums include but are not limited to: online courses, textbooks, peer reviewed literature, vlogs, blogs, podcasts and similar digital channels. pCEU’s are given timing assumptions based on average consumption of information. Each timing assumption has this clearly defined in the pCEU reporting template.

When submitting your request for Peripheral Continuing Education Unit approval, you are required to attach your summary notes of all materials consumed. Notes should include comments on how learning materials will/have influenced your skill and ability to practice Navina® Thai Yoga Therapy in addition to a summary of content. The more detail your notes have, the greater the likelihood is of getting cycle approval without additional questions and information being needed. The formatting of your notes and source referencing need to follow the pCEU reporting template.

CEU Carry-Over

Our Continuing Education program allows you to carry over a maximum of one full cycle of CEUs to the proceeding cycle. Any additional credits will not be usable towards your CEU application, and additional education must be completed within the subsequent cycle. (For example: whether you take 42 cCEUs or 63 cCEUs this year, the maximum length of time this will cover for your certification renewal is the current cycle and the next one (totalling 6 years). The cycle after that is not covered.).

cCEU & pCEU clarity:

cCEUs are core units that are largely awarded for in-person training only. The exceptions to this include our online intro to A&P, and the online review of Module 3 (both of which occur online, yet are counted as cCEUs).

pCEUs are largely given for online content, reading of books and other written materials and educational formats outside of an in-person training environment.
