Touch in yoga is a big can of worms – and we’re going to open it. There’s a lot of people who are entirely AGAINST the idea, there’s a lot of people who are entirely FOR the idea, and there’s a huge amount of people somewhere in the middle who aren’t really sure how to go about it or if they should. I’m guessing that’s you in the middle.
We’re approaching this work through the perspective of manual therapy (massage) – because part of what’s missing from the usual conversation – the critical information about touch and the vocabulary of touch. A lot of teachers just go for the application of touch – without covering bases first. We’ll set the foundation with some touch biology, and the “right” approach to making physical contact with someone.
Once we have that foundation set up, we are then going to get into the application of touch through two different lenses – one of assisting and the other of adjusting. That starts with getting familiar with the responses of the muscles/body to touch – calibrating your touch sensitivity before moving forward.
You’ll walk away from this 5 hours having practiced 6 common/relevant assists and adjustments and more importantly with a recipe that you can apply to any and all touch-situations in a yoga class.
Come along and expand your touch vocabulary. The workshop is on June 25, from 11am-4pm.
