Explore the region
It’s not just about visiting our retreat centre – it’s also about discovering everything that surrounds us.
There’s so much that Costa Rica has to offer – let us show you a glimpse.
From waterfalls and rainforest hikes to mangrove tours, beaches, the Spheres of Costa Rica, and adventure activities, Costa Rica’s Southern Zone offers incredible experiences both on and off the retreat schedule.
Right on our doorstep
Here are some of our favourite things to share with people coming to this region of Costa Rica. Depending on retreat schedules, sometimes they show up as part of the itinerary, where other times we’d recommend making time to see these outside of retreats.
Within 30 minutes from the centre:
canyoning
Running directly alongside the property, we also have an opportunity to rappel down waterfalls and get ourselves deep into the rainforest.
ziplining
One of the most established zipline companies in Costa Rica is just down the road from us and offers a unique chance to fly through the canopy.
archeological sites
Have you heard of the Spheres of Costa Rica? There are many official (and unofficial) archeological sites right near us, and extending through the region.
Mangrove tour
For something a little less intense, a guided boat tour along the Sierpe river is a perfect opportunity to spot wildlife and experience different ecosystems.
ventanas beach
One of the beaches we almost always take people to, it features two caves, an estuary and the backdrop of mountains and rainforest.
Within 2 hours from the centre:
corcovado national park
World-renowned for its biodiversity, the Corcovado National Park is Costa Rica’s largest National Park.
indigenous communities
Curre and Boruca are two nearby indigenous communities, who have various cultural events throughout the year.
nauyaca waterfalls
A stunning set of waterfalls a bit over an hour away from the centre – you can walk in, horseback ride in or enter by truck.
whale’s tail national park
Featured in the image at the top of this page (and here), this special natural feature is an iconic place to visit and is only about 45 minutes drive from the centre.
whale & dolphin sightseeing tours
There are many tours on offer in the region, with whale and dolphin tours being some of the more popular options.
in other regions of costa rica:
el choyin – hot river
A river fed by hot springs from the Arenal Volcano, is a natural marvel. There are paid and free sections for river access.
venado caves
An immense cave network located 30 minutes outside of La Fortuna, it’s one of the “must see” places that most people miss.
celeste river
Another natural wonder, this bright blue river is formed by the confluence of two unique rivers – one with a special compound, and one with a specific pH, causing this reaction.
chirripo – highest peak
Must be booked in advance, this is the highest peak in the country. On a clear day it has incredible views of both coasts.
If you’re visiting us (and even if you’re not), these are the places and experiences we’d tell you not to miss. Whether you’re seeking adventure, wildlife, or simply more time surrounded by nature, we’d be so happy to connect you directly with the appropriate tour operators or link you up with all the information you need.
