Signing up for education and training can be a tricky thing that can be plagued with a whole lot of uncertainty! If you’re trying to find out more information on our program, keep reading to see exactly what you’ll learn at our Thai Massage School!
Navina™ Thai Yoga Therapy is a school of contemporary practice. We’re not a traditional school, but then again – what exactly does the term “traditional” mean? That’s one of the first things we’ll tackle in class. We’ll spend time breaking down the concepts of what we believe tradition to be, and in fact we’ll likely be showing you that the word is commonly overused as a marketing tool, and is in fact not at all representative of what makes an authentic practice.
We’ll not only learn the value of massage, passive stretching and mobility work, we’ll also discuss the physiology of touch, some of the profound studies that have been done in the field and the relevance and important that brings to our work as practitioners. It’ll also have significant repercussions for the rest of our lives as well by highlighting the deep-seated need for compassionate human touch. We present this work as a life-skill, rather than a source of income or even simply a vocation.
From day one we delve into the worlds of both the Thai medical history, as well as the more modern sciences of anatomy and physiology. It is a prominent theme to our curriculum in order to educate as holistically as possible, so that our practice can be as all-encompassing as possible and so that we are equipped with many highly refined skills. We also have a not-so-secret hope to spark the love of anatomy study that will make you want to learn more and more about how the body works!
In the way we deliver course content we firmly believe in quality over quantity. This translates in so many ways, but one more noticeable effect is the immediate quality of touch that is developed. By learning less physical postures, and by allowing time to refine and explore each technique more fully by focusing on as much detail as possible, students leave with a greater sense of what they’re doing and with a more sensitive touch.
It goes without saying that you’ll learn the physical techniques and postures to perform a great treatment, but even more than that we teach you how to customize your work to suit the needs and wants of each and every person who comes through your door. Part of the way we teach is knowing that exploration is needed in every situation, without one formula ever suiting all needs. Therefore we instruct, we observe and we offer some of the finer nuances as suggested movements and then we ask you “how does that feel”? We prepare you for adapting your practice outside of the classroom.
Our delivery of course content is very practical – with our time divided between lecture, demonstration, practice and discussion. In essence, you’ll be getting a massage each and every day of the course…which is a pretty sweet bonus! (As a side note, many students have noted significant changes in mobility even within Modules 1-3).
Along the way we hope to instil the values of investigation and scientific study in each and every one of you so that you can critique and refine all of the work that you come across throughout your studies and YouTube searches 😉 In order to practice safely we have to sift through all the work that’s out there and evaluate it based on a solid understanding of human biology, as well as the desired outcome of the work we’re doing. That critical eye is another part of what we’ll work on with you.
Aside from getting massages all the time, learning a new life-skill and starting some important formal study of human movement you’ll also make fast-friends with your classmates and [hopefully] with us too! We’ve got an amazing community of practitioners and trainees out there that we love and we keep in touch with regularly (pun intended).
Oh and you can also expect to have a few laughs, because well, anatomy study can be really boring and massage is really relaxing! So we have to keep you awake somehow!
Oh, oh! And I almost forgot that we teach you how to achieve inner peace, change the world and maintain a healthy self-practice…
Always feel free to reach out and contact us with any questions.
